Welcome to my wedding + engagement FAQ section!

Below are a few of the questions couple's often have when booking their photographer.  If you have any questions that are not covered below, feel free to contact me directly!  I'd love to get to know you and see if we are a perfect fit!

Where are you located? Do you travel?

I am located in West Greenwich, Rhode Island, but my passport is up to date and I'm ready to travel where ever your wedding may take me!  I absolutely LOVE to travel and try to keep rates as reasonable as possible.  I love visiting new places, experiencing the sights and sounds, and trying new foods- Please don't hesitate to contact me about traveling for your big day!

What are your rates for weddings?

My collections begin at $3,000.  All collections include 8 hours of coverage, full resolution images, & online gallery to share with family and friends.  I also offer elopement/ intimate events packages for smaller affairs.

If you click "Contact" to send me an email, I'd be happy to help you find the perfect wedding photography collection to fit your needs!

What is your photographic style?

My photographic style is designed to be fun, laid back and comfortable. There is nothing I love more than laughing with my clients, enjoying time spent outdoors, and hearing about how people met and fell in love. It really is an honor to capture such important moments in peoples' lives!

During your day I try to be as unobtrusive as possible allowing me to capture the candid moments that happen throughout the day.  I also enjoy the creative, artistic side of setting up more posed photos between the couple.  I'm a mix between fine art photographer and photojournalist who loves all things bright & whimsical and can't wait to capture the candid quirky moments of your wedding day!

I love your work, how do I reserve you to photograph my wedding?

Once I receive a signed copy of your wedding contract and a 25% non-refundable retainer- your date is saved!  Please note that an email inquiry does not guarantee a client to a particular date.  It is not uncommon to receive several inquires for the same dates during wedding season, therefore the date remains open until a contract is signed and I receive the deposit!

How much time should we set aside for portraits on our wedding day?

I recommend anywhere between 35-45 minutes of time to take pictures of the two of you!  This doesn't include the time for formal pictures of family and bridal party.

Please be sure to give me as much time as possible to capture the two of you on your special day!  Taking a small amount of time our of your day will not only give you beautiful images, but it will allow you to spend time together, just the two of you.  The day can get hectic and this time allows you to slow down a bit and just enjoy being with each other in the moment.

Do you have a back-up camera and lenses?  Do you have liability insurance?

These are two very important questions to ask every photographer you consider for your wedding day!  I use top of the line Canon gear and have a backup camera body as well as a wide assortment of lenses ranging from wide angle, to telephoto, zooms and primes.

I also have full equipment and liability insurance!  Many venues require other vendors to carry their own insurance.  If your venue requires proof of liability, I ask that you give me at least 30 days to gather the documents and the contact information of your Wedding Coordinator, and I will take care of submitting everything on time!

Also, I am very careful in making sure your images are safely backed up once your wedding day is over to ensure nothing happens to your memories!

Do you shoot more than one event on my wedding day?

When a couple reserves their wedding date, they are my only clients for that day!  I give my weddings top priority and I do not book additional portrait or other events the same day.  For that entire day all of my energy and focus is devoted to that couple.

How long does it take to receive my photos?

On average it takes 4-8 weeks for completion.  It may be sooner, depending upon when your wedding is.  During the busiest parts of wedding season, editing can take longer.  During this time however, I do my best to post sneak peaks of my personal favorites to hold you over until your full gallery is complete!

Do I have permission to print photos?  Can I use them online?

With each of my portrait sessions and weddings, I release the photos for personal use after final payment.  This allows you to print for yourself as well as family and friends from any photo lab of your choice.  You may also use the images online.  You may not however- sell, edit, or advertise the images in any way.  This includes submitting images to weddings blogs & publications.  I'd love for my couple's to get published, but I ask that you please contact me first before submitting to make sure I haven't already submitted them for publication!

I also ask that if you post your images online (such as Facebook or Instagram) that you clearly state "By Kate Barnes Photography" beside or below the image.

Engagement sessions- why should I schedule one?

I absolutely LOVE engagement sessions!  They are such an fantastic way for us to get to know each other and spend time together.  This is a great chance for you to get comfortable having your photo taken and get you used to having cameras directed at your for extended periods of time.  It also allows me to capture your unique love story in a much more natural environment.

I've found that couples who do engagement sessions are WAY more comfortable being photographed on their big day than those who didn't.  When I show up to your wedding, we already know each other, which is such a bonus! Plus you end up with images full of memories that aren't just in your wedding attire!

Where should we schedule our engagement session?  What time of day?

Engagement sessions are wonderful because they are so flexible on location.  I recommend choosing locations that are important or significant to you as a couple!  Whether it's your first date location, your favorite cafe, or a beach that you love- selecting a location that fits your personalities is a great way to capture you both in a natural, candid way.

I always tell my couples, the best time of day for your session is during "golden hour" which is the first two hours after sunrise and the last two hours before sunset.  This time of day has drool worthy soft natural light we photographers go gaga for!

How long do your photographs last?

Your photographs will last forever.  They will be something you can look back at and relive your wedding day over and over for years to come and share with future generations.  When the cake is gone, the flowers wilted and the food all eaten, your photographs will be what you have left to remember all those special moments.  So, when you are budgeting for you big day, keep that in mind.
